Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center's annual appeal
Submitted By Jim Baldwin
Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center (TVHC) expects 2010 to be another challenging year. Already projections are for a state deficit of $20 billion. That's the fiscal reality.
In the past year, cuts have seriously impacted the way we are able to serve people. One example is adult dental. The "body" has been split apart and we need to bring it all back together.
Think of the body in three parts served by us - Clinical, Dental and Behavioral. Our clinicians serve the overall health of the body. It has been proven over the past few years that many of our ills are a result of dental problems and there are many people we can no longer serve because of major cuts to adult dental in California. There is also behavioral health, mental health. Many of those programs have been cut at a time when many more people are losing their jobs, health coverage and, in many cases, their self esteem because they are unemployed for the first time in their lives.
What TVHC will do is absorb the hits and maintain our standards and deliver care to the most vulnerable in our community. We shall continue to position ourselves for the future of community health care by establishing Electronic Medical Records and lobbying for a medical home for our clients, an approach to providing comprehensive primary care that facilitates partnerships between individual patients, their personal physicians and, when appropriate, the patient's family. The provision of medical homes will improve access to health care, increase satisfaction with care and improve health.
We are currently conducting our Annual Appeal and encourage you to support our community through a donation.
