Ohlone basketball rundown
By Gary van den Heuvel
Men's Basketball: Ohlone College men's basketball team continued their early season roll, beating Foothill-Los Altos Hills, 77-72, in their home opener in the Coast Conference-North Division.
Sophomore Ronnie Sawyer led the Renegades with 23 points, 18 of them in the first half. Ohlone led the game 41-28 at the half, but after a second-half Foothill rally, it took a 3-pointer by Sawyer to tie the game at 69. The Renegades' victory was insured in part by the free-throw shooting of Scott Clark, who drained six shots in the final moments of the game. Clark finished with 12 points in the win.
The Renegades improved their season record to 12-3 to go along with their 1-0 league record. But Ohlone's season doesn't figure to get any easier from here - the Coast-North Division currently has the top three teams in Northern California (which includes Ohlone), according to the Coaches Poll on www.JCScores.com: San Francisco City College and Chabot are likely to make this season a dogfight for the Renegades.
Women's Basketball: Ohlone's Lady Renegades improved their conference record to 2-0 with a 71-52 win over Hartnell. Jasmine Rubin led the Renegades with 22 points on 9-12 shooting, which included 4-5 from the behind the arc. Ganeaya Rogers and Elise Spain each contributed 11 points.
