Musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King

A selection of some of the state's most accomplished choirs, musicians and poets will be on hand to perform at the Chabot College Performing Arts Center to honor Dr. Martin Luther King and his legacy.

This concert, being housed for the first time by the 1400-plus seat venue, will be a night of celebration featuring many renowned performers including the Palma Ceia Baptist Church Mass Choir, boasting eighty members strong, the California State East Bay Gospel Choir, local poet Darrel "Blu" Sanders, reading some of his own work, and Pastor Tommie L. Smith delivering Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

The evening culminates with all choirs singing the night's namesake gospel, "Lift Every Voice". This event, emceed by Hayward Mayor Michael Sweeney, promises to be a stellar tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
