CSD to host Clerc Classic

California School for the Deaf (CSD) in Fremont will play host to the 10th Annual Clerc Classic Girls and Boys Basketball Tournament and Cheerleading Competition, Thursday-Saturday, Jan. 14-16, in the CSD Campus gym. This tournament brings together schools for the deaf from all over the country.
In addition to the host the eight other schools participating are, CSD-Riverside, Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD), Maryland (MSD), Metro Deaf School-North Star Academy of Minnesota (MDS-MNSA), Model Secondary (MSSD) of Washington, D.C., South Carolina (SCSD), Texas (TSD) and Wisconsin (WSD).
Each of the two tournaments will have eight teams with the first round being played on Thursday, Jan. 14, semifinals on Friday, Jan. 15, and finals on Saturday, Jan. 16. In addition, consolation rounds will also be played on Friday and Saturday. First game starts at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, and at 8 a.m. both Friday and Saturday. Last game expected to end around 8:30 p.m. each day.
Host CSD girls, coached by Debby Ayres, has their opener on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against TSD while the boys, coached by Oskar Schugg, open Thursday at 7 p.m. vs. WSD. Boys Championship game is Saturday at 5:45 p.m. with the Girls Championship on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
Heather Montero coaches the CSD cheerleaders. Cheerleading competition begins Saturday, Jan. 16, at 12:15 p.m. in the big gym.
Admission for Thursday is $5 adults, $3 students and senior citizens; Friday, $10 and $8;
Saturday, $15 and $13; all session passes, $20 and $15. Children 5 and under get in for free.
