See Red in concert
By Mona Shah
Beloved by children, parents and educators alike Red Grammer is an award-winning singer and songwriter. With his clear golden voice and a vision, Red has a loyal Bay Area following. Music For Minors, Music For Minors II, and Linden Tree Recordings and Books will present two family concerts with Red Grammer this month.
Responding to a lack of funding for fine arts in our schools, Music for Minors II (MFMII) has been keeping music alive in Fremont, Newark, and Castro Valley School Districts since 1988. From a single docent in 1986 to establishment as a nonprofit organization in 1988 and significant expansion thereafter, MFMII currently reaches over 4,000 children with weekly music instruction. Approximately 90 trained MFMII community volunteer docents present weekly music lessons in singing, dance, and instrumentation.
In celebration of its volunteers and program growth, this MFMII fundraising concert will help children experience the fun, discipline and training of music. Research has shown that music education in pre-school and elementary school years greatly benefits students in many areas of academic and cognitive development. Independent research companies confirm that lessons in singing and instrumental music at school usually bring financial success and increased self-confidence.
Red has set the gold standard for writing and performing music that playfully reconnects each of us with the best in ourselves. Combining a great voice with an unerring sense of performance and play, Red's live concerts delight all audiences, young and old.
