Press Release from Milpitas Fire Department
DEC 12: The Milpitas Fire Department responded at 6:58 p.m. to a report of a VTA light-rail train into a vehicle at Tasman Dr. at Highway 880. Milpitas Fire Engine 1 arrived on scene and gave a report of conditions and initiated patient contact. Battalion 19 arrived, established command and assigned incoming units. American Medical Response unit 620 arrived on scene and pronounced the automobile victim deceased at 7:12 p.m.
Truck 1 was assigned triage duties of the Light-rail passengers; the USAR was utilized for scene lighting and victim extraction.
Milpitas dispatched a total of five fire units, multiple police units for traffic control and accident investigation and notified Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). A total of over 30 personnel responded to the scene that included Milpitas Fire and Police, VTA, American Medical Response, Santa Clara County Sheriffs and the Santa Clara County Coroners Office.
There was one injury on-board the VTA train that was transported to Regional Medical Center and one fatality in the vehicle struck by the VTA train.
