Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers recognition award
Submitted By Sgt. Daryl Sequeira
Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers hosted the 2009 Recognition Gala at San Jose's Summit Center on November 13. Each year, Crime Stoppers honors police officers from each of the Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies for their contributions towards making their communities a better and safer place to live.
Last year, Milpitas Police Department partnered with Milpitas Unified School District to implement a policy to address gang activity. Officer Levine Visico, previously a gang detective, played a pivotal role in policy enforcement and reduction of gang violence on high school campuses. Visico helped identify, validate and arrest several gang members. Gang violence decreased by more than 50 percent, making the school a safer environment for students and staff.
In August 2009, a fatal stabbing occurred at the Jack in the Box restaurant, at 1740 S. Main Street. Visico's diligence assisted in the identification of the homicide suspect who is now in custody.
This year, Milpitas Police Department is proud to announce Officer Levine Visico as an honoree recipient of the 2009 Crime Stoppers Recognition Award. Visico has been a City of Milpitas police officer for 21 years and is a Lieutenant Colonel, United States Marine Corp. Reserve Unit. |
