Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) soccer teams, both boys and girls, had a great week of play from Monday, Nov. 23, through Saturday, Nov. 28. Out of six games played, they combined for a 4-1-1 record.

On Monday, Nov. 23, Mission San Jose High School girls soccer traveled to Moreau Catholic High School and one-upped the Lady Mariners 2-1. Preetman Sandhu and Taylor Jackson each put home a goal, and Allison Day saved 12 shots to improve the Warriors to 3-2 on the year.

In boys action on Monday night, James Logan High School hosted Mt. Eden High School and prevailed by a 1-0 margin. Noe Franco netted a late goal to give the Colts the 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Alex Valdovinos only needed five saves to record the clean sheet.

Following the win over Moreau on Monday, the Lady Warriors of Mission San Jose trekked to Antioch High School on Tuesday, Nov. 24, and earned a 0-0 draw. Both keepers - Day (13 saves) and Melissa Holmes (6 saves) - were on their game, as they both earned a shutout.

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, Newark Memorial High School boys soccer hosted College Park High School. After taking a 1-0 lead into the half, the Cougars exploded for four in the second to blow out the visiting Falcons, 5-0. Kristian Fuentes put home two goals while Logan Lombana saved six shots to lead the way for Newark.

Also on Wednesday night, James Logan boys went on the road to Castro Valley High School and were upended by the Trojans, 4-1. The loss dropped Logan to 2-2 on the season.

Newark Memorial boys rounded out the week of play with a solid 3-2 road win over Livermore High School on Friday, Nov. 27. Fuentes added a goal to his total, while Edward Ramirez put home two for the Cougars in the winning effort, as they improved to 4-0.
