Letter to the Editor: A LOV Thank You
On behalf of everyone involved, I would like to thank the community for their support of our Thanksgiving Meal Program. After the article appeared in Tri-City Voice, the community opened their hearts and made it happen. It would not have been possible without the generous donations of food, equipment, use of the Pavilion hall and kitchen and monetary support by caring individuals and businesses in the area.
It was a beautiful day, thanks to the over 400 volunteers who cooked, carved, served, delivered meals to the homebound, picked up dinner guests, distributed bags of food to guests, worked in the kids area, set tables, decorated, entertained, loaded and transported everything needed from our headquarters at Ruschin School to the Pavilion, stayed to clean up and take equipment and supplies back to Ruschin at the end of the day and on Friday. We are truly blessed to live in a community that can pull together and give of themselves for those less fortunate.
It was a wonderful day; a record 5,295 meals were served. That includes those delivered to homebound people in Fremont, Newark, Union City, Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Castro Valley, our Pavilion guests and the take-out food provided for those in need. A total of 267 turkeys, 80 hams and 439 pies were consumed, along with all the trimmings. We gave out 500 bags of food, 247 donated new hooded sweatshirts and over 1,000 new tee shirts also donated.
Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who made this year's Thanksgiving such a special holiday for so many. Unfortunately, as much as we would like to thank everyone individually, it is not possible. I hope this letter conveys our deepest gratitude and wish for a wonderful holiday season.
