Pedestrian Safety Operation
Submitted By Officer Karl Fredstrom
On Wednesday, November 18 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 12 p.m., the Newark Police Department Traffic Division will undertake an effort focusing on pedestrian safety by conducting a Pedestrian Safety Operation. The operation is part of an on going effort by members of the Newark Police Department to promote pedestrian safety. Non-uniformed members of the Newark Police Department will be crossing streets in marked pedestrian crosswalks while Officers monitor drivers' compliance.
The Pedestrian Safety Operation will take place in the areas of Newark Boulevard and Ruschin Drive, Thornton Avenue and Magnolia Street and Cedar Boulevard near Milani Avenue. The purpose of the Pedestrian Safety Operation is to target unaware and discourteous motor vehicle drivers who fail to yield to the right of way to pedestrians, lawfully within marked crosswalks. Officers who participate in the Pedestrian Safety Operation will use this opportunity to educate drivers regarding pedestrian right-of-ways and other associated traffic laws. Questions or additional information can be directed to Traffic Officer Fredstrom at (510) 578-4793. |
