Mission San Jose tennis sweeps MVAL

Katie Le of Mission San Jose High School earned first place in the Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) playoffs last week. Her teammate Shuyang Ye took second place. Vivian Nguyen and Chirsti Tain won first place in doubles.
Moreau Catholic High School finished the season strongly. Delani Dumpit and Gaby Blanco, the Mariners' number-three doubles team, finished their postponed match against San Lorenzo's Maricela Gonzalez and Norma Canche. Dumpit and Blanco's 6-2, 7-5 win gave Moreau Catholic the official victory against San Lorenzo 4-3.
The Mariners shut out Mt. Eden High School in its last game of the year. Moreau singles players lost one game. The team finished the year 9-7 in the Hayward Area Athletic League (HAAL) and 10-12 overall.
Co-captains Jana Lee and Hazel Cruz participated in the HAAL singles playoffs. Delani Dumpit, Gaby Blanco, Patricia Canuto and Jenae Galang represented the Mariners in doubles.
Top-seeded Ashley Sutedja and Allie Greaney of Castro Valley High School ousted Canuto and Galang in the first round.
Dumpit and Blanco lost against Castro Valley's Kristen Chun and Siliang Tiang in the quarterfinals. Cruz also took a quarterfinal loss.
Number-one seed singles player Jana Lee defeated two Bishop O'Dowd players to reach the HAAL finals on November 9 (results not available for press). Lee, who finished 15-1 in league play, hopes to have a North Coast Section playoff birth.
Irvington High School tied for third place in the MVAL. The team finished at 7-5 in league and 7-8 overall.
