November 11, 2009 > Improve your painting abilities Improve your painting abilities Submitted By Lucinda Bender The Fremont Art Association (FAA) is pleased to announce an action-packed painting workshop with Laura Williams on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15. This workshop was developed for students of all levels. Predominantly a plein air painter, Williams will demonstrate how to quickly paint a landscape indoors. Students will work from photos or a still life in the medium of their choice-oil or acrylic. There will be a slide presentation, a demonstration of how Williams works and the tools she works with, a quick study exercise for and loosening up and a great exercise for comparing line versus value will be explained. The focus of the workshop will include design, composition, value, color and brush work. Participants will paint while the instructor provides personal assistance. Williams received her BFA from the University of Massachusetts and has worked as a studio artist and a commercial artist for many years. As a landscape painter en plein air, Williams finds that being outside observing the ever changing dance of light to be true witness to the face of God. The experience of painting outdoors is awe-inspiring and, at times, humbling. Williams's paintings have often been described as peaceful and serene. This assessment describes the fundamental reason why she paints. She is truly inspired by the peace and serenity of the natural world that surrounds us. William's has been teaching workshops and displaying her art work for several years throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Yosemite, and the Wine Country. She has won several awards for her artwork.
