Rebuilding homes together

Volunteers worked to repair a home on October 24. This was a joint effort between Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley and Christ Community Church of Milpitas.
House Captain Gary Fessenmeyer explained the work included replacing the deck, internal and external painting, a new lavatory, garbage disposal, faucet, sheet rock repair and various odds and ends.
The homeowner, Ms. Davis, moved to San Jose in 1961 with her husband after serving two years as a Medical Technician in the US Air Force. She is in good health and has swum laps daily at the YMCA for the last 25 years.
She volunteers at the Fremont Senior Center and maintains beautiful plants in her backyard, learning how to care for them after studying horticulture. A few years ago, a fire damaged her living area and backyard. These areas have been restructured and are in very nice condition. The remainder of the house is over 50 years old. Ms. Davis loves her home which she plans to leave to her daughter.
On Rebuilding Day, October 24, 750 volunteers repaired and improved 40 homes in Santa Clara County. Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley is part of Rebuilding Together, a nationwide non-profit, helping struggling community residents live more safely, independently and comfortably in their own homes.
