Hirsch, Salas advance in NCS golf
By Gary van den Heuvel
Two local golfers will be competing in the NCS Tournament of Champions at Baywood Golf and Country Club in Arcata, following their performances in last week's NCS Section South Qualifier at Las Positas Golf Course.
Mission San Jose will be sending their top individual performer, Madison Hirsch, who shot an 82, 10-over par and tied for 12th amongst the individual scores. The top 12 golfers from non-qualifying schools (those teams who didn't finish among the top four) also qualified to play at Baywood.
Included among those 12 players are Moreau Catholic's Jessica Salas, who finished with a score of 85.
By finishing in fifth place, Mission San Jose's team missed an opportunity to send their entire team to the TOC; the top four teams at Las Positas advanced (and they were, in order, Granada, who were playing on their home course, Amador Valley, Carondelet and Monte Vista). Mission's score of 472 was 22 strokes behind Monte Vista.
The top individual score of the day was an even par 72, shot by both Granada's Marguerite Swearingen and Carondelet's Ellese Dias.
