Visiting resumes at Elmwood
Submitted By SCC Public Affairs
Public visits resumed for the remaining inmates affected by a temporary moratorium on visiting at the Elmwood Correctional Facility because of possible flu
Visiting resumed for 172 male inmates and 107 female inmates after no additional flu cases were confirmed in their housing units. Most Elmwood visitation had resumed on Saturday, October 10.
At this time, three males are being treated in the Main Jail infirmary for flu-like symptoms with test results pending. Two of the men were sent to the infirmary after being medically examined during the booking process. The third is housed at the Main Jail. Since flu-type cases began appearing at Elmwood approximately three weeks ago, six male inmates had confirmed influenza A. All have recovered.
The Elmwood Men's Facility houses approximately 2,400 medium- and minimum-security inmates. The Elmwood Women's Facility houses about 600 inmates, ranging from minimum-security to maximum-security.
The department continues to consult medical staff and will issue public notices as warranted.
