The Hayward Area Athletic League (HAAL) football season has reached its mid-season mark. All the teams seem to be ready for competition. Most of them are in tune to reach the second half of the season with a driving force.
In last week's games:
San Leandro beat San Lorenzo, 49-7, to take sole possession of the HAAL lead.
Castro Valley edged Tennyson, 24-14. Dan Hekal ran for 124 yards with a pair of touchdowns and Giles Chapman scored on an 11-yard run with 3:39 remaining as they beat the Lancers on the road.
Arroyo blasted Mt. Eden on the road, 42-8. Dijon Moore's 54-yard touchdown on the second play from scrimmage set the tone for the game as they beat Mt. Eden handily.
Hayward traveled to Bishop O'Dowd and squeaked out a two-point victory, 20-18, on Saturday afternoon, maintaining a second-place tie at 3-1 with San Lorenzo.
In other football, Moreau Catholic of Hayward (not in the HAAL for football season) ousted John Swett, 39-29, on Friday night, Oct. 23, in Bay Shore Athletic League play. |
