October 20, 2009
Work Session to listen to and discuss Land Use and Transportation "linkages" of the 2030 General Plan. Presenters were Dan Schoenholz, Policy and Special Projects Manager; Jeff Schwob, Planning Director and Barry Miller, General Plan Land Use Consultant. The intent of the General Plan in this area is to address Transit Oriented Development (TOD), Industrial and retail land usage.
Creation of "desirable places and memorable spaces" is the goal using Fremont Boulevard as a "spine" and determining the use of suburban, urban and mixed use zoning to achieve overall goals. Focus is essential to adhering to local and Metropolitan Transportation Commission guidelines and policies. Discussion addressed housing, parking, transportation, density and intensity issues as well as the impact of a Climate Action Plan. Prioritizing growth will be critical for future well-managed growth.
Staff will return to council in early 2010 with a draft General Plan.
