On Tuesday, Oct. 13, American of Fremont hosted Irvington of Fremont in Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) girls volleyball action. Head Coach Kim Martin's Irvington Vikings defeated the Eagles of American, 3-0, coached by Fe Basobas-Cacao. Game scores were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-14.

Leading the Eagles was Gissele Stone, 5 kills, 2 digs; Chanelle Norwood, 4 kills 2 digs; Cory Wassom, 4 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks; Olivia Downing, 8 assists, 1 dig; and Chrystallynn Sakata, 5 assists 3 digs.

Vikings leaders were Katie Lopez, 13 kills, 4 blocks, 3 aces, 5 digs; Morgan Aspelund, 8 digs, 5 aces, 3 kills; Ali Fremont, 26 assists; and Anaszas Thompson, 6 digs, 7 kills.

Same day, Newark Memorial Cougars played at the Washington Huskies of Fremont in another MVAL match, with the Huskies winning 3-0. Scores of the games were 25-16, 25-22 and 25-18.

For acting Head Coach Nicole Rodamer's Huskies, top players were Chessie Sateramo, 3 aces, 2 kills; Cody Bates, 23 digs; Konami Yokoyama, 3 aces, 20 kills; Caitlin Jorgens, 4 kills, 2 blocks; and Megan O'Connor, 4 kills, 3 blocks.

Head Coach Lindsay Simeone's Cougars' leading players were Joleen Croce, 13 kills, 2 blocks, 20 digs; Ashley de Melo, 10 kills, 9 digs; and Ruth Garcia, 12 assists, 6 digs, 2 aces.

MVAL play continued on Thursday, Oct. 15, with American defeating John F. Kennedy Titians of Fremont, 3-1, and Washington also beating Mission San Jose Warriors of Fremont, 3-1. American-Kennedy games scores, 27-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-8. Scores for Washington-MSJ were 25-21, 25-15, 18-25 and 28-26.

Leading the Eagles were Wassom, 11 kills, 5 digs, 1 block, 1 assist; Anderian Carbonel, 7 kills, 6 digs, 2 aces; Sakata, 19 assists, 8 digs, 2 aces; Downing, 13 assists, 1 ace; and Natasha Acidera, 13 digs.

For Head Coach, Jayson Cann's Titans, team leaders were Schlachter, 9 kills, 5 blocks, 5 aces; Fine, 5 digs, 14 assist; Herdt, 6 kills, 3 digs, 5 blocks, 1 ace; and Jacobson, 7 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces.

Huskies leaders were Kori Guerra, 5 kills; Yokoyama, 18 kills, 2 blocks; and Emily Marden, 4 kills, 5 digs. No stats received for MSJ.

MVAL standings as of October 18: 1.Washington, 7-1 (16-4 overall); 2.MSJ, 7-2 (11-4); 3.Irvington, 6-2 (9-4); 4.James Logan of Union City, 3-3 (4-5); 5. American, 3-6 (12-10); 6.NM, 2-6 (5-11), 7.Kennedy, 0-5 (0-18).

Latest standings in the Hayward Area Athletic League (HAAL) are: 1.Bishop O'Dowd of Oakland, 8-0 (20-7); 2.Moreau Catholic of Hayward, 7-1 (16-3); 6. Hayward High, 3-5 (5-8); 8.Mt. Eden of Hayward, 1-7 (1-9), 9.Tennyson of Hayward, 0-8 (0-12).

In the Bay Counties League (BCL), Fremont Christian is second at 7-1 (9-8) and California School for the Deaf, Fremont, fourth at 3-4 (10-14). Tuesday, Oct. 13, saw FC defeat CSD, 3-2.

Finally, Milpitas, of the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL), is tied for fourth at 2-3 (4-13).
