Comerica banking center opens on B Street
By Simon Wong
The opening of Comerica's 97th branch in California was celebrated formally on October 14 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The bank was also the venue for the Hayward Chamber of Commerce Mixer event. Chamber President & CEO Jim Wieder was master of ceremonies.
The banking center opened for business in April 2009 at 858 B Street, Hayward, and is a commercial and retail lender. It has not offered sub-prime loans and emerged from the banking debacle unscathed.
The Hayward Area Historical Society was presented with a $1,000 donation by Comerica to support the Days of the Dead 2009 exhibition at the Meek Mansion. A corner of the banking hall has been set aside to exhibit ink drawings by Studio 820 artists.
Many Comerica employees had traveled some distance to show support for their Hayward colleagues. Graduates, who complete the bank's well-established, management-trainee program, fill assistant management positions for about a year before managing their own banking centers. Danny Qutob and Rachael Tse are manager and assistant manager, respectively, in Hayward.
