Mission San Jose Warriors of Fremont lead the Mission Valley Athletic League with a 6-1 record, 10-3 overall. Last week, Head Coach Donny Hui's Warriors defeated James Logan of Union City, 3-0, and Irvington of Fremont, 3-2. They next play at Washington of Fremont on Thursday, Oct. 15, and then home to Newark Memorial on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Meanwhile, Moreau Catholic Mariners of Hayward trails only Bishop O'Dowd of Oakland in Hayward Area Athletic League play with a record of 5-1 (O'Dowd is 6-0) and 14-3 overall. MC defeated Mt. Eden of Hayward, 3-0, on October 6 and then lost to BOD, 3-0, two days later. Next up for Head Coach Lyndsey Mietz's Mariners are away matches against San Leandro, Wednesday, Oct. 14, and Tennyson of Hayward, Thursday, Oct. 15.
In other MVAL action, Washington Huskies of Fremont defeated J.F. Kennedy Titans, also of Fremont, on October 6. For acting Head Coach Nicole Rodamer's Huskies top players were Emily Marden, 9 digs, 2 aces; Melisa Randall, 13 digs, 2 aces; Konami Yokoyama, 11 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs; and Caitlin Jorgens, 5 kills.
Also on October 6, Irvington Vikings beat Newark Memorial, 3-0, with scores of 25-18, 25-9, 25-23. Top players for Kim Martin's Vikings were Katie Lopez, 13 kills, 5 blocks, 2 digs; Morgan Aspelund, 7 kills, 5 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces; Anaszsa Thompson, 6 kills, 5 digs, 4 aces; Danielle Carothers, 14 assists, 6 digs, 3 ace; and Ashley Hubacer, 6 kills, 3 blocks.
Leading Lindsay Simeone's Cougars were Taylor Hollis, 14 digs; Taylor Presley, 9 digs, 1 ace; and Libby Snyder, 5 assists, 9 digs.
Thursday, Oct. 8, saw Logan defeat American of Fremont, 3-1. For Fe Basobas-Cacao's American Eagles, top players were Megan Dormoy, 5 kills. 2 digs, 5 aces; Cory Wassom, 5 kills, 2 digs, 1 block; Chrystallynn Sakata, 11 assists, 8 digs, 2 aces; and Natasha Acidera, 14 digs.
In Bay Counties League play on October 8, California School for the Deaf, Fremont (CSD) won over Chinese Christian of San Leandro, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22 and 25-19).
Leading Karina Pedersen's CSD Eagles were Captain Rachelle Richardson, 10 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs; Alexandrina Brinkley-Green, 4 kills, 7 aces; and Samantha Hyland, 16 assists, 3 aces, 3 digs.
CSD is now 3-3 in league (third place) and 7-9 overall. CSD played at second place Fremont Christian (6-1 in league and 7-8 over all) Tuesday, Oct. 13. Score was unavailable at press time. Log on to TCV Sports' Web site, www.tricityvoice.com/sports, for all the results.
Milpitas, of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League's (SCVAL) El Camino Division, lost last week, 3-0, to ECD rival, Monta Vista, of Cupertino. This dropped them to 2-2 in the division, fourth place, and 4-12 overall. Next up is an ECD game at home against Wilcox of Santa Clara on Tuesday, 20th, at 6:45 p.m.
