Lightning Bolts win and tie
Submitted By Blaise Castren
Lightning Bolts, of the Under-14 Girls House League, opened the second half on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a resounding 5-0 win over Ice Breakers. However, Bolts were held to a 0-0 tie against Jabberwockies on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Synclaire Hamilton scored in the first ten minutes against Ice Breakers on an assist from Elena Strom. Breakers' goalie came out to cut off Hamilton's angle, but the Lightning Bolt delivered a perfect shot. Hamilton followed it up with another goal 10 minutes later.
Samantha Stephens scored a pair of second-half goals on assists by Nicole Furukawa and Amy de Landa. Jamie Fernandez closed out the scoring with her first goal of the season. Madison Blomquist, Tiffany Morales and Alexa Hughes played well at midfield for the Bolts as Hughes delivered a nifty pass to Claire Castren, who just missed scoring.
Zoe Rayburn, Kailey Richardson and Nadra Mamou did a great job shutting down Breakers' top offensive players.
In the scoreless tie against the Jabberwockies (in their first meeting, Bolts had defeated Jabberwockies, 4-0), Hamilton and Aaryonna Lopez had early shots on goal while Furukawa fed Jenna Wondka who had a pair of shots that missed before halftime.
In the second half, both Castren and Alexia Dentoni were denied goals by Jabberwockies defense. Right before the game's end, Cheyenne Gilman hit the post and Wondka delivered a long shot on goal that just failed to find the net. Jamie Fernandez also played well for Lightning Bolts. |
