Fremont Christian has unbeaten week
Submitted By Nick Liston
Fremont Christian's boys soccer grabbed sole possession of the Bay Counties League (BCL) with two shutout victories last week - 3-0 over Oakland Military on Tuesday, Oct. 6; and 2-0 over Emery on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Sophomore forward Jihoon Lee had a break-out game for Fremont Christian when they hosted OMI on Tuesday night.
Lee scored twice to lead the Warriors (8-3-2; 3-0-2) to victory over their closest competitor in the BCL. Michael Mahabali scored first for FC on a penalty kick after Lee was fouled inside the 18. Five minutes later, Mahabali sent a hard corner kick just outside the six, where a streaking Lee scored his first goal of the game with a header.
The score would remain 2-0 at half, and well into the second half. Junior Fullbacks Michael Mahabali and Isaiah Liston contained the middle of the field for FC, while the Oakland Military defense worked hard, holding FC at bay.
Lee broke the scoring drought with his second and decisive goal 23 minutes into the second half, when Freshman fullback Isaac Liston's chip shot from well outside the 18 was muffed by the OMI goalie. The aggressive Lee took shot the loose ball in for his second goal.
Fremont Christian and Oakland Military tied earlier in the year, 3-3, and are on course to meet again in the BCL Playoffs in late October.
In other league action this week, Fremont Christian defeated Emery 2-0. Wilson Kim scored both goals for the Warriors to improve their record to 9-3, 4-0-2).
