Top Hat XXIII keeps Washington Hospital care top-notch
By Alyson Whitaker
If you're driving down Mowry Avenue in Fremont this Saturday evening, don't be surprised if you see men and women dressed to the nines in the parking areas surrounding Washington Hospital. While the elegant attire may be out of place for a visit to a patient, it is completely appropriate for the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation's Top Hat Dinner Dance fundraising event.
In the mid-1980's, the foundation was formed to enhance the Washington Hospital Healthcare System by raising public awareness of health issues, as well as provide financial support. Through generous individual and corporate donations through the years, the foundation has provided funding for many new and meaningful health services.
The funds raised at this year's event will go toward the purchase of a state-of-the-art computerized surgical microscope. The OPMI Pentero scope offers almost seven-times magnification and an integrated light source. Neurosurgeons will be able to look through the scope while operating, incorporating imaging studies and pre-operative data. The increased surgical precision minimizes the risk of collateral tissue damage and reduces complications to the patient following surgery.
The Top Hat event has grown significantly in its twenty-three years. First held at Top of the Mark in San Francisco, it has grown beyond the capacity of local venues. Last year, the event sold out with nearly 650 attendees, including hospital administrators, physicians, community leaders, local officials, residents, and hospital supporters. To make room for all, the foundation opted to hold the event in a tent on the West Washington Hospital property. It was such a roaring success that the venue will be repeated again this year. From the outside, the tent looks like a regular white event tent. Step inside however, and you'll find yourself transported far from the parking lot on which it stands. One full side and the roof of the tent are constructed of clear plastic, highlighting the hospital. Twinkling lights shine throughout, creating a festive atmosphere.
A hosted reception will kick off the evening, followed by an elegant dinner. Catering is by McCall Associates, known for their mouth-watering cuisine. A live auction will be held following dinner, along with a 50/50 raffle, live entertainment, and dancing until midnight.
The evening's entertainment will be provided by Beatlemajesty. Featuring cast members of the smash-hit Broadway production of "Beatlemania," the ensemble will re-create the look and sound of the Beatles' fantastic career. View beautiful period costumes and take a trip back in time as you listen to artful renditions of the songs of yesteryear.
The Foundation has remained a key part of the Washington Township Health Care District, striving to provide excellent healthcare for our community. As technology improves, so does the need for continual and regular upgrades to equipment and facilities. The ongoing support of the community is essential to ensuring that the care received continues to be top notch.
It's not too late to purchase tickets, at $250 per person, to Top Hat XXIII. Please call the Washington Hospital Healthcare Foundation at (510) 791-3428.
