Newark Thunderstorms win a pair
Submitted By Moira Jacobs
The Newark U-14 Thunderstorm continued their strong team play as they beat the Fremont Adidas, 2-0, Saturday, Oct. 3, and the Union City Mud Dogs, 4-2, on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Thunderstorms battled the Adidas Saturday at Central Park in their second competition against each other this season. Emily Hoeven, assisted by Megan Heyes and Alex Mejia, led the offensive charge. But it was the Thunderstorm defense, including Kristal Hong, Alex Jacobs and Alisa Prathnadi that forced the Adidas to defend their goal for most of the game.
The few shots on goal taken by the Adidas were turned away by Thunderstorm goalie Jamie Kenerk.
On Sunday, the Thunderstorms dominated the first half with two goals and defense by Chloe Lambert and Savannah Christopulos. The Mud Dogs began the second half with two quick goals but the Thunderstorms, urged on by Shelby Casey (who is sidelined with a knee injury), came charging back and answered the Mud Dogs with two goals of their own. |
