Warriors defeat Cougars

Mission San Jose girl's volleyball team traveled to Newark Memorial last Thursday, Sept. 24, to do battle in Mission Valley Athletic League (MVAL) volleyball action.
In the best-of-five format, MSJ won 3-0, though all the games were very competitive, as the scores were 25-23, 25-20 and 25-23. With the victory, Mission improved to 3-1 in league play and 7-3 overall. Newark dropped to 1-2 in the MVAL, 4-7 overall.
Leading Head Coach Donny Hui's Warriors were Keila Mah (12 kills, 11 digs and 2 aces), Diana Yan (40 assists, 4 digs and 1 ace), Allison Day (12 kills, 4 digs and 3 aces) and Tiffany Huynh (11 digs). Assisting Coach Hui are Phil Chou, Leah Manalo and Hitorni Wada.
Head Coach Lindsay Simeone's Cougars were paced by Joleen Croce (12 kills and 9 digs), Emma Weinert (30 digs and 2 aces) and Ashtyn de Melo (5 kills, 22 digs and 3 aces). Assistant coaches for NM are Tricia Kelly and Melissa Hall.
Next up for MSJ is hosting American of Fremont on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m. For NM, they played at American on Tuesday, September 29 (score unavailable at press time) then they host both James Logan of Union City, October 1, and Irvington of Fremont, Tuesday, October 6; games also at 5 p.m.
