Letter to the editor: Masonic Homes Flatlands Project
Thanks for publishing the minutes of the Union City Council meeting on September 08, 2009. I was quite surprised as well as shocked to read the comments made by Union City Mayor Green that opposition to the Masonic Homes Flatlands Project is minimal and "since Measure II passed many years ago, a significant number of citizens have left the community and many new citizens moved to the City. Issues, opinions, and attitudes of current residents may have changed, so to revisit the issue in November of 2010 will offer voters the opportunity to express their opinion about how this land to be used."
Wow! Looks like Mayor Green has an excellent crystal ball to visualize everything and can decide all by himself without any study or poll that this must be decided by 2010 ballot. Maybe we should send him to Washington so that he could solve all the problems there!
I moved into the Union City in 2004. I am strongly opposed to the current Masonic Homes Flatlands plan to develop the land adjacent to the Mission street. From what I have heard so far, there are many newcomers that are strongly opposed to the current Flatlands project being advocated by Mayor Green. A friend of mine told me that Mayor Green ran in the election a few years with a slogan 'Green for Green,' meaning Mayor Green will preserve the green on the Flatlands. Looks like he is in the pocket of the builders and contractors already and the slogan has changed to 'Green for Greenbacks!"
