Dale Hardware unveils expansion plans

All that and a bag of chips!
On Sunday evening, September 20, Dale Hardware announced to over 100 employees plans to double the size of their present location beginning early 2010. President Garth Smith unveiled architectural plans and drawings to show the new look and added services. He noted that "it has been a long, long road to get to this point and the City has now signed off on the project."
Dale Hardware first opened their doors in 1955 to a newly growing community known as Centerville in Center Square Shopping Center. In 1968, it moved to a larger space in that center and then in 1982, to its current location. The present 42,000 square foot building sits on five acres; opening its new facility of nearly 100,000 square feet is anticipated by the end of 2010. Smith commented, "Now this is big!" to the enthusiastic employees.
This expansion process has been anticipated for quite some time and will offer customers a more complete selection of home improvement and building materials, convenience lumber and plants while continuing to provide its renowned customer service. Transformation will begin with the construction of a metal building to house the rear lumber yard which will protect lumber and other products from the weather.
The biggest changes are the addition of a fully enclosed drive thru convenience lumber yard and a greenhouse garden center. Smith told the group, "Customers will be able to drive up to the product they want, load it up and drive out." Guests of Dale Hardware will also be able to get a cup of freshly brewed coffee, sandwich and a bag of chips from its new cafˇ. He noted that those less enthusiastic about a trip to the hardware store will have the option of sipping a soda, munching on a sandwich with a bag of chips or eating ice cream while aficionados browse to their heart's content.
The store's hardware area will double, increasing by approximately 15,000 square feet and a new greenhouse garden center will occupy approximately 12,000 square feet. Dale Hardware's lumber yard is planned to occupy over 22,000 square feet of space. Smith pledged that although customers may experience some disruption while the new facility is under construction, the store will continue to be open for business during the entire project.
Expansion will require more personnel with expertise in great customer service, lumber and building materials, and master gardeners. Smith noted that Dale Hardware plans to increase its workforce by approximately 35-40 new employees. He stressed that the company will be looking for "excellent people with great customer service skills who like to be around people." More information about how to apply for these positions will be available as this project nears completion.
Another change to the Dale Hardware site will be removal of buildings that have housed Bogie's and Print Graphics. "We are pushing out to Thornton Avenue by 60 feet," said Smith. "We will have an entrance and exit from Thornton, an entrance and exit from Post St. - in a similar but not the current location - and retain the existing connection to Moraine St."
Dale Hardware has prided its reputation on extreme customer service and support of education, family, and community spirit. Throughout the years, Dale Hardware has generously supported many outstanding agencies of the Bay Area and beyond.
