Kitayama, Logan going solar
Submitted By Rick La Plante
Four years ago, New Haven Unified became the first Alameda County school district with a primarily solar-powered school when Conley-Caraballo High School went online. Now, installation is nearly complete on a solar-energy system at Kitayama Elementary School and a similar system at James Logan High School is expected to be completed in October.
The 200-kilowatt systems will supply a majority of the energy needs at Kitayama and a significant portion of the needs at Logan. These systems are expected to pay for themselves over time. In addition to significant annual operational savings, PG&E will help defray installation costs with a series of annual rebates.
