Fall ushers in fine art

By Julie Grabowski

The Fremont Art Association (FAA) celebrates the talents of artists from the Bay Area and beyond with their 44th annual Fine Art Show. Held in their historic Niles district gallery, the show opens Friday, September 25 and features artwork in five categories: Oils and Acrylics, Water Media, Graphics (including pastel, pencil, pen, charcoal and mixed media), Photography and Computer-generated, and Three-dimensional works.

Participating artists must be at least 18 years of age and are allowed unlimited submissions of original artwork completed in the last two years. The show is a wonderful opportunity for newcomers to the art scene as all art meeting display requirements will be hung for the public to view. Members of the Art Association pay $15 for their first entry and $10 for each additional entry, while non-members pay $20 for their first entry, and $15 for all subsequent entries. Fees are non-refundable and are used to cover the expenses of the show. Any remaining funds go to support the art gallery.

Claire Verbiest, award winning artist, instructor, and juror, will determine this year's top honors. Best of Show comes with a purse of $300, while the gold ribbon winner takes home $100 and the silver ribbon $50. An Honorable Mention will also be awarded. Sales of the artwork are encouraged and greatly hoped for. "We're trying to promote art for the community," says FAA board member and show co-chairman Valerie Manning. "We want to put art in the homes of people."

The Fremont Art Association is made up of approximately 250 members living in the Tri-City area and is celebrating 50 years of sharing the arts. In addition to artist showcases and annual events, FAA offers classes and workshops from watercolor and oil painting to photography and bead crochet. The community is also invited to attend monthly meetings at the gallery, which take place on the first Wednesday of every month and feature artist demonstrations.

All art lovers are invited to the opening reception Sunday, September 27 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. to enjoy diverse art, refreshments, and the presentation of awards.
