Fall sports opened over the weekend of Friday, Sept. 4, and Saturday, Sept. 5, with a full slate of football games.

Milpitas High School Trojans opened their season with a lopsided 42-0 win against an overmatched North Salinas ball club.

Ben Pomele scampers past North Salinas defenders as he helped Milpitas run away from the Vikings on Friday night.

In other football action throughout the TCV readership area: Friday night's games saw Irvington travel to Mt. Diablo and drop its opener, 22-0; Newark Memorial went to Alameda and handed them a 20-13 defeat; and Washington stunned California High on the road, 30-28. James Logan's home opener scheduled for Friday night vs. Fremont High in Oakland was canceled.

Saturday night had Moreau Catholic open up their season with a win, 27-8, over Richmond; Mt. Eden fell on the road to a solid Sacred Heart team, 34-0; and John F. Kennedy was victorious, 22-7, at Balboa.
