AlmaVia hosts educational forum

AlmaVia of Union City invites the community to attend two free, educational workshops in celebration of National Assisted Living Week. The first workshop, "Elder Care Law/Financial Planning - VA Benefits" takes place on Saturday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. Three panelists will make presentations including John K. Bishop, Elder Care Attorney, Gary Alt, Financial Planner and Michael Ennis, Veterans Service Officer for Alameda County.
At the workshop, Bishop will give an overview of current law that applies to the senior population. Alt works with families to preserve and grow their assets and will provide tips and information on wealth building and tax-saving techniques. Rounding out the workshop is Michael Ennis, who will provide information on VA Pension, the Aid & Attendance option, and other veteran's benefits and services available to veterans and their families.
The second session will will feature Deborah Poff who will present, "Dementia Awareness." Poff is a retired nurse and case manager for the memory impaired in addition to being an author. She currently conducts independent evaluations in the homes of those afflicted with memory impairment to assist families on the care needs of their loved ones.
