Bill Mancebo's player spotlight: Gerry Romero
This week the player spotlight takes us to Fremont where we meet 72-year-old Gerry Romero.
Gerry likes to play tennis a lot and does it regularly three times a week. A school teacher for many years Romero is now retired and loving life. He taught junior high and high school, and almost every subject; his specialty was Spanish.
Tennis is not his only sport of interest: Romero also golfs twice a week to stay in peak condition. He drives a 1988 Corvette and the car is a specimen of perfection. Keeping that sports car spotless is not only satisfying but it's a great physical activity that helps to keep him in shape.
Romero has lived in Fremont since 1962, proudly married with two daughters and four grandchildren. When he finds time to relax Romero enjoys gardening and watching sports on TV, especially tennis, football and basketball. Romero also finds time to give to the community, spending time helping at the Holy Family residence in Mission San Jose.
When he's not playing sports or helping others, Gerry will find time to enjoy his favorite meal of steak and potatoes with some veggies on the side; if he's lucky will get to enjoy his favorite omelet created by no other than his loving wife.
