Bluefins remain perfect

The Newark Bluefins swim team finished the East Bay Swim League (EBSL) dual meet season with a perfect 7-0 record after a 681-356 victory over Hayward's Treeview Dolphins Saturday afternoon, July 18, at Newark Memorial.
"I am so excited for our swimmers" said Mike Farrington, Bluefins assistant coach. "These are such great kids; they deserve it."
In a heartfelt message to the team, Head Coach Gordon Crosby noted, "This has truly been a year to remember, where the sky was our only limit. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it."
Emily Loaisiga, Jonathan Mui and Joshua Tsai led all scorers with 20 points while Amanda Castillo added 17. Kenny Alcosiba, Angela Longarini, Conor Corcorcan and Emily Aquino-Gonzales added 16 points each.
The Bluefins had 29 swimmers with 10 points or more.
The Girls 9-10 Free Relay team of Castillo, Oliva, Cordova and Wang broke a nine-year-old Bluefins record with a time of 1:02.60, while the 11-12 Girls Medley Relay team of Huang, Chow, Garrett and Aquino-Gonzales bettered their own record for the third time this season at 2:16.22.
"The number of records broken this year is astounding," said Co-President David Strand. "We are well positioned for Championships."
The Bluefins finish their 2009 season with the EBSL Championships at Chabot College, Saturday, July 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
