Citizens can assist the city by serving on boards and commissions that provide valuable advice and input to staff and elected officials. The following positions are currently vacant: Environmental Services Advisory Committee Term to expire 12/31/2012 Advise the City Council on long range policy for environmental services matters. Provide a forum to receive public comment on environmental services management. Provide advisory recommendations as necessary to integrated waste management planning documents and their amendments. Human Relations Commission Term to expire 12/31/2010 Advises the City Council on the provision and quality of human services to the City, including coordination of all human services, public and private. Fosters mutual understanding and respect among all racial, religious, and nationality groups, and works to eliminate prejudice and discrimination. Library Advisory Commission Term to expire 12/31/2010 Studies, reports, and makes recommendations to the Fremont Library staff, Fremont City Council, and/or the Alameda County Library Advisory Commission on library services in Fremont. Advises the Librarian and the City Council on development and operation of Library facilities in Fremont. Senior Citizens Commission Term to expire 12/31/2011 Senior Citizens Commission Term to expire 12/31/2012 Assesses the needs of the elderly community, works with public and private agencies to coordinate senior services, and monitors legislation of interest to seniors. Initiates and encourages educational and other appropriate activities which tend to promote an understanding of the needs and problems of the elderly and of the aging process. Works cooperatively with other senior citizen organizations to establish the Fremont Multi-Service Senior Center as a focal point for the senior community.
