Eagle Scout project completed in Union City
Submitted By Nelson Kirk
Ivan Hui from the Boy Scouts of America Troop 273 completed his Eagle Scout Project at William Cann Memorial Park on June 20, 2009.
Hui spent many hours planning his project with Bill Bontadelli from Union City Public Works and Amy Evans from the Alameda County Resource Conservation District.
Two hand-made redwood benches were installed around the play area to encourage parent supervision by Hui and his crew.
The project included planting ten California live oaks and ten Oklahoma redbud trees in the Oak Grove for this year's Arbor Day celebration. Hui and his fellow volunteers also planted native shrubs that produce a food source for wildlife and created a walking trail through the restoration area.
Ever keen to learn and educate, Hui posted a sign with details of the diverse ecological environment along and around the old Alameda Creek at the park. |
