The Fremont Art Association (FAA) is pleased to announce Don Cardoza, the association's Third Quarter Showcase Artist. Cardoza's current body of work, including a unique portrait of Christ derived from the stains on the Shroud of Turin, will be on display at the FAA Gallery, July 11 to 26.
Don Cardoza, "Daddy Don," is a native Californian and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area most of his life. Raised by an artist and a musician, Cardoza has studied both artistic disciplines from an early age and throughout his education. He has traveled and performed widely through the US, Europe and Asia and brings a unique eclectic perspective of Christian, Hindu, Sufi and Buddhist influences to his work.
Daddy Don studied modern composition, painting and sculpture with the Korean artist Nong, new music composition with Terry Riley and traditional northern Indian Hindustani raga singing with Master vocalist Pandit Pran Nath. Cardoza formed his first jazz groups when he was a teenager and continues to perform at venues throughout the Bay Area as a pianist, vocalist and bandleader. An album of solo piano standards is slated to be released this summer and a showcase of his artwork commences kicks off at the FAA in July. Cardoza's recent work includes in depth portrait studies from his month long journey to the Philippine Islands. He has taught piano, Jazz and theory at Ohlone College and Cal State East bay since 1990. He has been the organist for Corpus Christi Catholic Church since 1996 and has supported FAA as an artist, musician and as treasurer.
A variety of new works from additional member artists will compliment the gallery's third quarter offerings. Please join with your community in celebrating this accomplished artist. You can meet the artist at a reception held in his honor at the gallery on Sunday, July 12 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served.
