Restaurant Review: Tony's Tacos
By J.D. Wolfe
If you like Mexican food, and who doesn't, I have found a quick and easy place to go. Tony's Taco is located across the street from Ohlone College on Anza Street (between Ellsworth Street and Mission Boulevard). The stand is in the same shopping center as the Mission San Jose Post Office and parking is not an issue.
I stopped by and met Tony who just opened the place a few weeks back. I ordered a Quesadilla and a Tostada. Don't let the name fool you. The food and beverage menu is very complete with tasty and authentic food. I loved the use of the spices and you will too.
Prices are very fair and competitive and the food is well-prepared. What really impressed me is how clean the place is; I commented on this to Tony. He had a big smile and thanked me for noticing. He shared with me that they spend about an hour at closing to make sure the place is thoroughly clean. There are a few outside picnic tables so you can eat outside if you want. On a warm day it is a great place to enjoy nice weather.
As you might expect, there are no restroom facilities. Tony's Tacos is one of those places where locals are beginning to gather but will one day be outnumbered by "locals" from miles around. Word will spread fast.
