Sink a putt for football
JFK High School uses 9-irons for the gridiron
Schools are bleeding under the heavy financial axe of budget cuts. Sports may be viewed as apart from a core curriculum but they are crucial to the physical, emotional, intellectual and psychological development of many students. School spirit often revolves around team competition and accomplishments.
For the past eight years, friends and neighbors of John F. Kennedy High School have gathered in friendly competition of JFK's Alumni Golf Tournament to drive and putt golf balls in support of the pass, run and kick of football. This year, JFK Coaches Mike and Damewood invite everyone to once again hit the greens at Sunol Valley Golf Club in support of the school's football program. This, in turn, provides funds through gate receipts for many other non-revenue sports at the school.
Funds are set aside by schools to provide protective equipment for players and small stipends for coaches, but money for team transportation, game officials and adequate locker room facilities are only available through fund-raising activities such as the Alumni Golf Tournament. To spice the day, a luncheon and raffle of terrific items including gift baskets and certificates as well as football memorabilia will follow the morning of play. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the lunch banquet.
Sponsorships are available for the tournament. An $800 "Gold" sponsorship includes a foursome entry, carts, banquet lunch, sponsor sign and plaque as well as a full page advertisement on the JFK football web site. Other sponsor opportunities are available including Silver ($500), Bronze ($350) and a $200 "Hole" sponsorship.
The "shotgun" tournament will begin at 8 a.m. "Go Titans!"
