Newark Bluefins dominate again
Submitted By Charlie Mensinger
The Newark Bluefins continued to dominate the Southern Division of the East Bay Swim League (EBSL) with their fifth straight dual meet victory. The Bluefins cruised to an easy 641 - 392 victory over Warm Springs Saturday.
The undefeated Bluefins are 5-0, including victories over Glenmoor and Mission Valley - the first time in the 13-year existence of the swim team from Newark.
The Bluefins won 50 of the 68 events with Jonathan Mui, 10, Emily Loaisiga, 9, and Kenny Alcosiba, 16, leading all scorers with 18 points each.
Jeff Parsons, 18, Klarissa Reynoso, 15, Joshua Tsai, 9, and Alexandria Cordova, 11, each added 16 points.
Emily Aquino-Gonzales, 12, took first in all four of her events: 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard back stroke, and anchoring the 200 Medley Relay and free relays.
"I can't tell you how proud I am to call myself a Bluefin," said Coach Gordon Crosby. "First and foremost the credit should go to all of the swimmers that have been working hard for a very long time."
James Rauch, 16, said "It's not about winning; it's about doing your best and having fun."
Newark's quest for an undefeated season continues July 11 when the Highlands Sharks from Fremont visit the Bluefins at the Newark Memorial High School pool. |
