Newark Rotary Club Teacher and Student of the Year Awards 2009

Each year, the Newark Rotary Club sponsors a Student and Teacher of the Year awards program.

"We are proud to be associated with this event and firmly believe in honoring the teachers and students," said David Zehnder, Recreation and Community Services Director, City of Newark.

Each year a Student of the Year and a Teacher of the Year is selected from elementary schools, Newark Junior High School, and Newark Memorial High School.

According to Newark Unified School District, Student of the year is selected by the Principal of the school and the staff. Teacher of the year is nominated and voted on by the employees of the site.

Once the selection is made for the site (school) the selected names along with their information is then forwarded to the HR office. The top three are then selected, the board of education reads the information about each of these three employees and then they select one person from the three for the award.

Mayor David Smith presented each recipient with a plaque at the City Council meeting on June 11. The following students and teachers were honored:

Students: Corey Ng (Kennedy), Brisania Bautista (Schilling), Kristelle Rodriguez (Snow), William Hanke (Lincoln), Savannah Rosales-Brand (Musick), Wardah Shere (Milani), Patricia Magana (Graham), Aronpreet Atwell (NJHS), Caitlin Soriano (Bunker), Nancy Renteria (McGregor School Site) and Camille Clark (St.Edwards). Keith Dore (NMHS).

Teachers: Eileen Weeks (Kennedy), Mondana Tang (Schilling), Tiffaney Lee (Snow), Renee Angelo (Lincoln), Karen Benton (Musick), Cathlin Goulding (NMHS), Derek Gaulding (NJHS), Anne Street (Bunker), Barbara Stuber (McGregor School Site) and Lesli Griffiths (St. Edwards). Erin Snider (Milani), Jeanie Carpenter (Graham) and Alissa Jensen (Whiteford).
