Dancer wins scholarship
Yokos Dance and Performing Arts Academy is very excited to report that one of its students, Jessica Lester, a senior at American High School in Fremont, won the $10,000.00 scholarship from Beach Blanket Babylon's Scholarship for the Arts program in the Dance category.
Picked from hundreds of entries from the Bay Area, Lester competed against two dance finalists on June 8th, at Club Fugazi in San Francisco. In front of an audience comprised of family and friends for all contestants, including competitors in the Voice and Acting categories, Jessica danced superbly to Hernandos Hideaway.
Don Bleu, Master of Ceremonies, kept the crowd laughing as they all waited for the decision from the celebrity judges: Val Canaparoli, Harry Denton, Jerry Friedman, Gordon Getty, David Gockley, Chuy Gomez, Rita Moreno, Jonathan Moscone, Carey Perloff, Tony Taccone and Jan Wahl. Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Beach Blanket Babylon, joined Don Bleu on stage for the announcement that Lester was the winner and presentation of the award. |
