FYSL played host to EPL Portsmouth Academy Director
Submitted By Ricky Clarke
Fremont Youth Soccer was pleased to provide its coaches and players with an invaluable learning experience, theory and practical educational sessions for coaches were provided over the weekend of June 6-7, with the tutelage of English Premier League Portsmouth Academy Director Paul Smalley.
An insight into the philosophies and practices were shared amongst coaches who assist Fremont Youth Soccer in both their recreation and competitive programs.
Executive Director, Andrew Donnery believes that a consistent in-service development program for coaches is one of the initiatives he would like to introduce. The coaches can only benefit from an increased awareness of best practice in youth programs in Europe. Smalley shares the strategies Fremont Youth Soccer have newly implemented, one of these is the need to work technically with the younger players from the U4-U12 levels.
The joint belief by taking advantage of these golden ages of learning with effective and efficient coaching practice will eventually lead to a more successful program. Smalley recognized that several of the players that attended the younger age session that came through the U8 Academy would not be out of place at the Portsmouth Academy. And he has asked the coaching staff to keep him updated on their progress.
FYSL's new relationship with Portsmouth FC, in conjunction with Adidas, offers the opportunity to link with one of the most highly regarded, respected and professional youth academies in the United Kingdom. The working relationship and link will provide both administrators, players and coaches the opportunity to fulfill their ambitions and dreams.
