Bill Mancebo's player spotlight: Elijah Delafosse
This week the Father's Day tradition takes player spotlight to Union City National League Majors Division where we meet father and son team; Whitney and Elijah Delafosse. Elijah is in his fifth year of baseball and plays first base for the Diamondbacks. He has five home runs so far this year.
Elijah attends Cesar Chavez Middle School and excels in reading and math. In the off-season he follows his dad's footsteps by participating in basketball and football. In order to relax, Elijah enjoys watching all sports, likes to play MLB 09 on his Playstation 3 and looks forward to spending time with his family. Both father and son stay in shape by regular workouts together and then satisfy their hunger with Elijah's favorite, bean burritos.
Whitney works for Delafosse Trucking Co., a second-generation family business that's been around since 1978. He strongly feels that the wins and losses of sports are great tools that teach his son about coping with the ups and downs of life. Whitney played football for Logan High, class of '94 and later graduated from Menlo College. Whitney goes to all of Elijah's sporting events and said "the two of them are very close." He was quoted as saying "I wouldn't miss one of my son's games for anything." |
