Discussion of proposed operating budget FY 2009/10
Economic Crisis with housing market and consumer spending down, unemployment rising, state budget unresolved. Property tax and sales tax expected to decline further. City will use one-time funds from Budget Uncertainty Reserve, suspend transfers to CIP projects, revise reserve policy and reduce ongoing expenditures.
Public safety will be affected due to cutbacks including rolling brownouts of fire stations, fewer policy officers on the streets and reduced lobby hours at police station. Maintenance of roads and city facilities and parks will be delayed or reduced including signs, trees, medians, litter pick-up. Permit processing will be delayed. Core reserves are expected to reduce to approximately 1 1/2 months of operating expenditures.
The first public hearing of Fremont's operating budget and redevelopment agency budget will be held on June 2, 2009. Second hearing will be June 9, 2009.
Continuing discussion of General Plan 2030
Visualization of a vision and goals for Fremont's future using written descriptions, graphics and diagrams. Looking at transit, trails, open space, town centers and opportunity areas/corridors to help understand how the vision and goals can be accomplished.
