Fremont Blaze takes first place
Submitted By Coach Pat Mapelli
Fremont Blaze, a Fremont Youth Soccer League U-16 boys team, completed the Spring 2009 soccer season in first place. With a combination of both technical and tactical playing, they managed to finish the season with a record of 9-0-1. Overall the team scored 47 goals through 10 games, while only allowing 10.
This group of boys truly exemplified the definition of teamwork by always supporting one another, reading the field, and recognizing opportunities as they develop. Offensively this was supported by the goal distribution on this team, which shows that not one or two players controlled the outcome of the game but rather a large percentage of the team. The goal distribution was: Clayton Mapelli, 10; Joshua Lee, nine; Thomas Bui, eight; Angel Lopez, five; Kevin Wong, four; Arman Chini, four; Nevan Murphy, two; and Douglass Terry, Kazbir Dhillon, Adrian Fuentes, Ryan Habibi and Jacob Dutra, one each.
Teamwork was exemplified defensively as well, as the players supported one another to minimize the attack on their own goal. If the attack managed to break through the defensive line, the goalkeepers displayed their ability to stop the ball. The defense was supported by Terry, Chini, Andrew Yin, Efe Sarinalbant, Ankit Shah, Ruvan Jayaweera, Murphy, Dutra, Raul Puri, along with Fuentes and Habibi as goalies.
This season to remember was framed by the efforts of the coaches Nelson Fuentes, Santiago Lee and Pat Mapelli. Also to be recognized for their efforts are the many volunteer parents that have made it possible for the coaches to focus on coaching and the players to focus on playing, which they managed to do so well throughout the season.
