Fabulous, frugal fashions in Fremont
Submitted By Carol Weaver-Madsen
Our grandparents knew the meaning of being thrifty, and today's economic climate has given rise to a new appreciation for living frugally. Stretching a dollar is becoming a newfound art.
Dressing like a fashion plate doesn't have to cost a fortune. The "Fabulous Frugal Fashions in Fremont" runway fashion show will show you how to put together a fantastic outfit that earns all kinds of attention, while costing a fraction of its original price. Best of all, nobody will ever guess you didn't buy it at one of those fancy, brand-name places at the mall.
Volunteers at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop in Fremont are all decked out and ready to walk the runway on Saturday, May 16 to demonstrate how fabulous frugal fashions can be. When you shop at the Discovery Shop, you always find treasures at a bargain and support a wonderful cause at the same time.
Enjoy the fashion show and, while you're there, consider making a small donation to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, and/or stop by the Cancer Information Center for brochures about the role that lifestyle choices play in cancer risk. Plan enough time to have a good look through the store. Remember, you are on a treasure hunt - that's why it's called the Discovery Shop!
Located in historic Irvington, the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop has been in Fremont since 1996. The shop is stocked full of high-quality clothing, shoes, bric-a-brac, antiques, books, framed artwork, jewelry, miscellaneous household items, furniture and collectibles.
Discovery Shops are owned and operated by the American Cancer Society, and proceeds are directed toward funding research, education, advocacy and patient services. These programs and services are in direct relationship to reaching the 2015 goals of the American Cancer Society, which include reducing cancer mortality by 50 percent, reducing cancer cases by 25 percent, and improving the quality of life for all cancer patients.
The Discovery Shops were founded in California in 1965. Their business model was the same then as it is now: selling "only the best" gently-used, donated clothing, furniture and collectibles with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit American Cancer Society. Discovery Shops offer quality merchandise for sale in an upscale, boutique-like setting. You'll find 40 Discovery Shops from Eureka to San Diego.
The Fremont Discovery Shop is staffed by over 120 dedicated and hardworking volunteers, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens. If you're looking for a volunteer opportunity, please call (510) 252-1540 and say you want to join the people who are making a difference in the fight against cancer.
Fight cancer with a bargain, and learn how to live fabulously frugal in Fremont!
