May is National Barbecue Month. Spring is slipping into summer so it's the perfect time to attend Sun Gallery's Wild West Barbecue. Food preparation by Hayward Fire Fighters Local 1909 will have you rolling up your sleeves and digging into barbeque chicken, beans, salad, and beer from Buffalo Bills Brewery. The annual fiesta will entertain throughout the afternoon with music and line dancing. Guests also have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction of art and jewelry items. "This annual spring gala fundraiser ties in with Castro Valley's Annual Rodeo Parade and our current exhibit, "The Wild, Wild West", said Sun Gallery Office Manager, Christine Bender.
The Sun Gallery, a long standing non-profit art organization for over 30 years, promotes art by offering as many as ten irreplaceable programs to the community. The top ten programs include themed art exhibits by California and national artists including a firefighter artist show, photography show, collage show, printmakers show and Wild West Show. The Annual Children's Books Illustrators Exhibit is another stellar program, now in its 20th year. The gallery also offers tours for schools, an Illustrators Exhibit and hands-on art. Free Saturday Art for Families is a popular program held on the second and fourth Saturdays from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Prepaid barbecue tickets are $35 per person and $40 at the door. Make checks payable to Sun Gallery. Sponsors can prepay by cash, or credit card by Wednesday, May 13, sponsorship levels are: $100 Bronze Buckles, $200 Silver Buckles, $500 Gold Buckles, and $1,000 Platinum Buckles. "Buckles does not have any real significance other than a title we give our different levels of sponsorship for this fundraiser," said Bender.
For reservations call Christine Bender at (510) 581-4050 during gallery's open hours Wednesday through Friday and second and fourth Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Wednesdays till 4 p.m.). The gallery is located at 1015 E Street in Hayward. "We do two annual fundraisers a year, fall and spring. Our last fall fundraiser was at the City Hall Rotunda in Hayward. We had Mexican food, singers, and a Mexican dance group called Ballet Folklorico Tlapalli, and a live auction," said Bender.
