Successful swimmers headed to Section Finals

Swimmers from the Mission Valley (MVAL) and Hayward Area (HAAL) athletic leagues showed their swim talents at their league finals last weekend. There were spectacular performances at both conference meets. The MVAL finals were hosted by American High and Chabot College in Hayward showcased various record-setting marks for the HAAL.
The MVAL meet was dominated by Mission San Jose boys and girls teams. Each of the teams from Mission San Jose would claim a team title and beat Irvington, which came in a close second. Mission won the boys with 540 over Irvington's 430; MSJ girls won with 556, to Irvington's 394.
Misson San Jose's Anna Tselikova cut through the water with ease and set an MVAL meet record in the girls 100 butterfly in a time of 56.84. Tselikova's teammates Mina Chen, Alex Ruff and Hannah Scobel set the meet record with a first place finish in 3:40.31, edging out the Irvington team of Brittany Tan, Taylor Leandro, Ashely McBride and Salena Huang that finished in 3:40.48. Huang also set a league record of her own in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.37.
Mission San Jose also placed well for the boys relay team of Morten Graverson, Eugene Choi, Ryan Tanakit and Dillion Chang, finishing first with a time of 3:19.68.
In the HAAL, Moreau finished third, with 207, behind Castro Valley and Bishop O'Dowd.
The top swimmers from the MVAL and HAAL will have a chance net a NCS championships as the participate in the North Coast Section Final May 15 at Cowell Community Pool in Concord.
