Strikers drop third straight to first-place Panthers
Submitted By Blaise Castren
Strikers, an FC Fremont girls U-15 House League team, lost to the first-place Panthers for the third time this season, 2-0, despite playing solid for the entire game on Saturday, May 2.
Cindy Tafolla and Danielle Lemucchi both attempted late penalty kicks that could have tied the game, but they were turned aside by the Panthers' goalie. After the Panthers had taken a 1-0 lead in the first half, Strikers' Ashley Renaud had a shot that just went wide.
Then, after falling behind 2-0, the Strikers had several chances in addition to the two penalty kicks to equalize the game. Lemucchi missed after a pass from Jenna Wondka, and then Kailey Richardson sent a long ball toward the goal after which Deeksha Mehta fired a blistering shot that also missed.
Later, Wondka had a shot on goal following a beautiful corner kick by Tafolla. Prior to the Strikers' penalty kicks, the Panthers also had a PK that failed. Fullback Abby Harrison, forward Ashley Campbell and midfielder Rachel de Landa played well for the Strikers in the losing effort. |
