Old rivals, Panthers and Vortex, met on Saturday morning, April 25, for the third time this season, and the Panthers were able to get the best of their rival, winning by two, 3-1.

The game started at a fast pace with chances at both ends. Erica Ohye opened the scoring in the 11th minute when she received a nice pass from Natalie Cory and beat two defenders before powering a shot into the back of the net.

In the following minutes, Sarina Utamsing and Ohye both hit the woodwork with powerful shots before Ohye doubled the Panthers' total with a fine solo effort, making it 2-0.

Vortex continued to push forward and, just before half time, were rewarded with a long range shot which sailed into the top of the net to make the score 2-1. Both teams generated many scoring opportunities and only fine goalkeeping by Meghana Paranjpe (Panthers) and Alison Huff (Vortex) kept the halftime score to 2-1.

The second half started just like the first with end-to-end play. Second half Panther keeper, Zarin Khan, made several saves before midfielder Rhian Dunn extended the Panthers' lead when she ran into the 18-yard box and left-footed a half volley out of reach of the Vortex goalie, regaining their two-goal advantage, 3-1.

The Panthers might have increased their lead, except for fine defending by Jessica Spano, who thwarted a breakaway attack by Megan Dunn with a last-minute tackle just as Dunn was about to shoot from close range. Vortex could not figure out how to beat the Panthers defense, and could not make a rally, ending the game losers by a 3-1 score.
